SCOPE
Addition and Renovation
The Minster Police Department completed a transformative addition and renovation project that enhances its ability to serve the community with modern, secure, and adaptable facilities. This $2.59 million upgrade includes a 3,846-square-foot addition and 4,900 square feet of renovated space—totaling 8,746 square feet of state-of-the-art improvements.
Led by architect Eric Schmiesing, the design team took a vision-first approach: honoring the department’s architectural heritage while integrating clean, contemporary design elements. The result is a facility that feels both rooted in tradition and ready for the future.

Key upgrades were tailored to support evolving departmental needs and future growth. The renovation includes:
- Larger locker rooms with spacious, organized storage to keep gear and walkways clear.
- An expanded evidence room with significantly more space for secure storage and categorization.
- A three-car garage and additional storage space to streamline daily operations.
- Dedicated training rooms for educational sessions and physical fitness, supporting officer readiness.
- Enhanced security measures throughout the building and site to protect both personnel and the public.
- Updated finishes that bring a modern look and reinforce a sense of pride and professionalism.

One of the most innovative solutions in the project was the integration of an ICC-500 rated storm shelter, a requirement of the Ohio Building Code. Instead of designing a separate space, the team creatively repurposed the new squad room to serve this dual function. This not only satisfied code requirements but ensured uninterrupted operations during severe weather events.
This project sets a new benchmark for law enforcement facilities—prioritizing user experience, operational flexibility, and long-term functionality for the Minster community.
