SCOPE
New Construction
Celina City Schools, in collaboration with the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission, partnered with Garmann Miller to design a new three-story, 202,799-square-foot junior high/senior high school building to serve 1,200 students in grades 7-12. After conducting several visioning sessions with the administration and staff, it was decided early in the design process that the district needed a progressive, flexible facility with a strong emphasis on state-of-the-art technology and flexible furnishings that allowed multiple space configurations.

Academic classrooms, including a more progressive Encore suite that offers elective-based programs, are predominantly located in a three-story, south-side wing. This area includes the administrative and guidance office suites and a shared second-floor media center.
With security and safety in mind, the main parent and bus drop-off/pick-up zones, as well as student parking, are all separated to provide proper site circulation. The main secured student entrance is on the south side of the building. The event entrance, which is situated near the student parking lot, has a large common area to showcase the school’s extensive and proud history.

Adjacent to the commons is access to the cafetorium, which is a combined dining facility that can serve 400 students at a time and double as a 600-seat, state-of-the-art auditorium. The cafetorium’s unique design implements tiered, theatrical bleacher seating and includes an operable wall partition capable of creating a smaller, more intimate lecture hall, all while student dining services are going on throughout the day.
A 2,000-seat high school competition gymnasium and a 400-seat junior high competition gym provide ample space for extra-curricular events. The perimeter of the cafetorium has operable wall partitions that can be opened to the gyms and serve as a large common area.

Celina High School is located on a 52-acre site near residential neighborhoods with multiple athletic practice and game fields and playgrounds. It was essential to the owners and our team that the project site maintain the normal daily operations of the school district and plan construction phases with the overall safety of students, staff and visitors in mind.
With a focus on enhancing the environment for learning and minimizing building operating costs, the project included sustainable features such as daylight glazing, a high efficiency HVAC system, durable material selections, and water-efficient equipment and fixtures. The building is currently expected to achieve Silver Certification in LEED v4 for Schools.
