SCOPE
New Construction
As the Southwest Licking School District continues to grow, the need for a new elementary facility became a top priority. Located on the east side of campus near the recently renovated middle school, the new 75,662-square-foot building accommodates 800 students and includes classrooms for kindergarten through third grade, as well as special education spaces. Partially funded through the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission (OFCC), this new facility was designed to support the evolving needs of a growing district while promoting safety, collaboration, and community.

Inspired by the design of the district’s intermediate school, the architecture team worked closely with a committee of staff members to create an organizational plan centered around the student dining room—a central hub of the building. This space not only serves as the primary dining area but also connects the school’s two small learning communities: one on the north side, featuring 16 traditional classrooms, and another on the south side, which includes eight traditional and eight kindergarten classrooms. The media center, music, and art rooms also branch off from this core area, creating a dynamic and accessible environment for learning.
The design prioritizes safety and flow. Separate entrances for bus and car traffic streamline drop-off and pick-up while reducing congestion. A secure vestibule at the main entrance provides controlled access to the administrative offices, ensuring safe entry for students, staff, and visitors. Just beyond the vestibule, a vibrant tile welcome wall greets guests, showcasing the school’s interior color palette and setting a cheerful tone upon arrival.
Architecturally, the school reflects a cohesive visual identity with the district’s other buildings. Its exterior features traditional red brick accented with the school’s signature black and gold colors, creating a familiar yet distinct look that honors school spirit and continuity across campuses.
