SCOPE
Renovation & New Construction
Southwest Licking School District, in partnership with the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission, worked with Garmann Miller to complete renovations to the K-3 Kirkersville Elementary School and an addition to its secure entrance. This $11.1 million project was a part of the district’s $130 million phased facility modernization program, planned over the course of five years.
The new 1,300 sq. ft. addition serves as the main entrance with a secure vestibule, administrative offices, and a conference room. It also displays bold wall graphics and updated signage, creating a welcoming arrival that fosters school pride.

Renovation areas of the 58,000 sq. ft. facility include the classrooms, library, cafeteria, art room, and gymnasium. The building had been renovated through the years, except the gym, which hadn’t been updated in over 100 years. New furniture and finishes enhance learning environments for the district’s youngest students. Additional improvements include HVAC systems and replacement of the flooring and windows, ensuring better air quality and climate control.
Prioritizing safety and security, the site design strategically separates bus and car traffic, eliminating the need for vehicles to back onto public streets. These improvements create a smoother, safer arrival and dismissal experience for the entire community.
