Vantage Career Center was established in 1975 to provide vocational education in 22 occupational areas and provide required academic courses to fulfill state graduation requirements. It was announced at the school’s groundbreaking ceremony that the official enrollment of the first year was 454 students. Nearly 50 years from its opening, Vantage continues to serve high school and adult students by building skills in innovative and advanced technical labs, on and off-site learning programs and community collaboration. Its mission is to provide authentic, student-focused, career technical training that prepares high school students and adults for employment and further education.

Vantage Career Center serves 13 member school districts located in four counties: Mercer, Putnam, Paulding and Van Wert. The Vantage adult education serves any graduating senior, adult looking to try a new career path or local employers offering career development for their employees. Garmann Miller was hired to modernize the Van Wert, Ohio-based learning center by designing multiple additions and renovations The existing building for Vantage Career Center was not suited for its use. Two additions were added to the facility, and the interior of the existing building was renovated to provide the school with spaces for each classroom. The existing roof, windows and doors were replaced. Skylights were added to provide daylight to the classrooms in the existing facility. The project was designed using BIM technology and is a 186,371 sf renovation and 69,500 sf addition. This project achieved LEED Gold certification.
A 19,694 sf athletic complex building was built and includes two locker rooms, an athletic training room, two coach’s locker rooms, a coach’s conference room, ample storage rooms, and a multi-purpose athletic room. The multi-purpose athletic room, approximately 6,000 sf, has enough floor area for batting cages, weightlifting equipment, wrestling mats, and space for general instruction and exercise. The building also includes concessions, public restrooms and a ticket booth.
