What do cards, socks and a little friendly competition have in common? Garmann Miller partnered with Ohio School Boards Association members to turn a classic card game into a heartwarming mission to keep children’s feet cozy this winter.
Through GM’s interactive High Low game—a playful nod to the 1980s “Card Sharks” TV show— at the OSBA Capital Conference & Trade Show, Nov. 11-12, 2024, attendees guessed whether the next card would be higher or lower than the current one. Every win added two pairs of socks to the tally for Hannah’s Socks, a Woodville, Ohio-based nonprofit providing socks to those in need.

By the end of the day-and-a-half event, 100 attendees had won the game, adding up to 200 pairs of socks. Garmann Miller’s philanthropic committee, the Game Changers, matched that total, doubling the donation. To top it off, sock drives at the firm’s Minster and Columbus offices collected another 150 pairs, bringing the grand total to over 550 socks donated.
A representative from Hannah’s Socks said the organization was excited to learn that the Game Changers Committee matched the donation and other team members provided donations. “Receiving 500 pairs of socks just as the winter season begins is perfect timing, as it’s always tough to maintain enough inventory for the requests we receive.”
To date, Hannah’s Socks has collected and distributed over 1,000,000 socks throughout the state of Ohio, serving day care facilities; social service agencies; public, charter and parochial schools in Ohio; as well as homeless and domestic violence shelters.
Garmann Miller CEO Eric Baltzell highlighted how the effort aligns with the firm’s values: “OSBA was the perfect setting to share in our culture of giving back. We’re proud of the attendees who helped us support Hannah’s Socks and make a real difference for children this winter.”
Through fun and generosity, OSBA attendees, together with the GM team, showcased the power of connection, creativity and compassion—one pair of socks at a time.
